ProfileWhat it is
Wisdom teeth are the last molars to come through, usually between 17 and 25. Often there isn’t enough room, so they come in at an angle or stay partly trapped under the gum. That traps food, causes infection and can damage the tooth in front.
Not every wisdom tooth needs to be removed. An X-ray shows its position and roots, and whether removing it now will save you trouble later.

FAQ
Wisdom Tooth Removal: your questions.
Does wisdom tooth removal hurt?
The procedure is done under local anaesthesia, so it should not hurt. Some swelling and soreness for a few days is normal and is managed with medication and cold compresses.
How long does recovery take?
Most people feel back to normal within a few days to a week. Surgical extractions can take a little longer.
Should I remove a wisdom tooth that doesn’t hurt?
Not always. If it is healthy, fully erupted and cleanable, it can stay. If it is impacted and damaging the neighbouring tooth, removing it early is usually easier.
