What it is

Inside every tooth is soft tissue called the pulp. When deep decay, a crack or an old filling lets bacteria reach it, the pulp becomes inflamed or infected, and that is what causes the throbbing, sleepless kind of toothache.

A root canal removes the infected pulp, cleans and shapes the canals, and seals them. The tooth stays in your mouth, keeps working, and is usually protected with a crown afterwards. Keeping your natural tooth is almost always better than extracting it and replacing it.

Your options

Single-sitting RCT

For suitable cases, the entire root canal is completed in one visit.

Multi-visit RCT

For severe infection, treatment is staged so the tooth can settle between visits.

Re-treatment

Failed or painful old root canals are re-opened, re-cleaned and re-sealed.

How treatment works

  1. 01

    Diagnosis

Examination and an X-ray to see the roots, the infection and whether the tooth can be saved.

  2. 02

    Numbing

Local anaesthesia so the area is fully numb before any work starts.

  3. 03

    Cleaning the canals

Infected pulp is removed and the canals are cleaned, shaped and disinfected.

  4. 04

    Sealing

Canals are filled and sealed so bacteria cannot return.

  5. 05

    Crown

Most treated back teeth get a crown to protect them from cracking.

In their own words.

I got my RCT done by Sohini maam and she did it thoroughly and meticulously with upmost professionalism. Many dentist outright denied possibility of saving my tooth but she did save my tooth from being extracted. Highly recommended!

Excellent service and highly skilled doctors! I highly recommend Dr. Sohini for RCT; she managed a single-sitting root canal for me that was totally painless and well-explained. I also had a great experience with Dr. Brijish for a wisdom tooth extraction. Both doctors are professional, comforting, and provide excellent treatment.

Dr. Sohini Jain is one of the best dentists my family has come across. My father had a tooth ache and was advised to go for extraction by a doctor but Dr Jain considered all his conditions and advised for root canal instead and immediately fixed the issue. She really goes an extra mile to ensure that you get the right treatment that is really required.

FAQ

Root Canal Treatment: your questions.

Does a root canal hurt?

The procedure is done under local anaesthesia, so most patients feel pressure rather than pain. “Painless” is the single most common word in our patients’ root canal reviews. Mild soreness for a day or two afterwards is normal and manageable with ordinary painkillers.

Can a root canal be done in one sitting?

Yes, in many cases. Whether your tooth suits single-sitting treatment depends on the infection and the anatomy of the roots, which your dentist will check on the X-ray first.

Do I need a crown after a root canal?

Back teeth usually do, because a root-canal-treated tooth is more brittle and can crack under chewing forces. Front teeth sometimes need only a filling. Your dentist will advise based on how much tooth structure remains.

Another dentist told me to extract the tooth. Can it be saved?

Often, yes. Many of our patients came for a second opinion after being told extraction was the only option. A specialist assessment will tell you honestly whether the tooth can be saved.
